Three vols. of records of the Washington Benevolent Society of Mass., a political club made up of Federalists. The Boston-based club was founded in 1812 to elevate patriotism and aid citizens by supporting the Constitution. The records include its constitution and by-laws, minutes (1812-24), membership lists, financial accounts, and incoming correspondence (1812-18) regarding membership, offices, and the establishment of branches in other Mass. cities.

The Washington Benevolent Society was organized Feb 22, 1812 "to cherish the principles of Washington, and to aid unfortunate members of the institution". It originated in the office of Nathan Hale, attorney, No. 12 Exchange Street with General Arnold Welles president. There were more than 2000 members. Disolved in 1853.
